Welcome to Squirrel Class (Year 1)
Miss Humphries teaches Squirrel class, supported by our amazing teaching assistants. In Squirrel class, we are building on the independence we started to develop at the end of the reception year.
We have a busy but exciting year, full of new things to learn and do. We continue to work on our phonic and reading skills using the Little Wandle reading scheme, as well as exploring poems and books written a long time ago along with some written more recently. We will be developing our number skills in Maths, building on what we learnt in Year R.
Some of the topics we cover in other subjects include learning about Queen Elizabeth II, finding out about what happened during the Plague, learning about the capital cities across the United Kingdom and finding out more about climate and weather.

Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually see the structure of the day ahead.
